The 1960-D Large Date was the workhorse cent of the Denver Mint that year. With a combined Denver mintage of over 1.58 billion, the 1960-D in its Large Date form was by far the more common variety from that facility. The thicker, bolder numerals of the Large Date are easy to spot without magnification.
By 1960, the Lincoln Memorial reverse was in its second year, and the initial novelty had worn off for most Americans. These coins circulated heavily and remain abundant in all grades. For collectors building a set by date and mintmark, the 1960-D Large Date is a straightforward and inexpensive acquisition.
